Cosy, charming and crammed with 35,000 titles, the Bookplate is somewhere to linger for hours, browsing and stocking up on some good old-fashioned page turners.

“It’s surprising the amount of times people say, ‘I love the smell of books’ – and you can smell that history when you walk into this book shop,” owner Tanya Natalie (pictured) said. “It’s the smell of history.”

The second-hand shop is brimming with biographies and children’s books and its bestsellers are science fiction and fantasy. George Orwell’s 1949 novel 1984 is still commonly requested and new titles from Australian authors are stocked.

Despite its vintage feel, the shop is just over 20 years old but evokes nostalgia.
